About Gone Coastal Charters
Meet Captain Trevor Smith, a vibrant, funny and friendly charter boat captain hailed as one of North Carolina's finest. With a lifetime commitment to learning and teaching the art of fishing, Captain Trev's expertise shines through his adventures across the globe, from the fisheries of Kenya to the icy waters of Alaska. Drawing inspiration from his travels, he has innovated countless fishing techniques that consistently yield innovative and productive results on his home turf here in North Carolina.
Captain Trev's journey into fishing began at the age of two, nurtured and encouraged by his parents who recognized his passion. By the age of five, he was already teaching his father how to wield a cast net. Throughout his childhood and teenage years, he seized every opportunity to fish, racking up wins in tournaments, local derbies, and landing State Citation sized catches even before completing college.
While pursuing his education, Captain Trevor continued to weave his love for fishing into his academic and professional pursuits. He financed his studies at UNCW by working as a fisherman, specializing in crabbing for blue crab along the shores for a small, family-owned fishing enterprise. Eventually earning a degree in Environmental Science, his educational journey reached new heights during a transformative two-year internship with the North Carolina Department of Marine Fisheries. There, he played a crucial role in assessing the health of coastal fish stocks in Southeastern North Carolina, garnering invaluable insights into the intricacies of marine ecosystems.
